Hot as Hades Slot Review

Launched in 2015, Hot as Hades was designed as Microgaming’s take on the ancient Greek mythology theme. Hot as Hades is a 3D animated slot which has no small amount of light-heartedness and humour dashed across its reels. There are also a handful of goodies, including randomly triggered spins and a mini-game feature to get you excited.

Visually, this is quite different from other Microgaming titles. The use of 3D symbols and a very mobile-centric interface makes Hot as Hades stand out. You get the same wagering menu design as other Microgaming games, but the gameplay is a touch more unique.

Whereas games such as Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park adopt the traditional 243 ways to win structure, Hot as Hades has adopted an old-school setup, more akin to Mermaid’s Millions, Sun Tide or Bar Bar Black Sheep.

Players who fancy playing something different from the world-famous software provider will arguably appreciate the mixed bag set of features and design of this release. However, Microgaming slot fans who prefer the “traditional” style of gameplay commonly associated with this developer might think that Hot as Hades is a step too far in a different direction.

How to Play Hot as Hades

As touched on, the wagering menu in Hot as Hades will be familiar to any avid Microgaming game fan. A 5-reel and 20-line game screen sits amidst a fiery backdrop, and all twenty of those lines are fixed.

The wagering menus allow for coin denomination and value manipulation, so you can stretch your bets from a floor of 0.20 up to a ceiling of 50.00 a spin.

Throw in a touch of medium volatility and an agreeable RTP which is just south of 97%, and Hot as Hades should appeal to many players.

Microgaming has gone old-school with their low-paying symbols on the reels, all of which are represented by the playing card emblems. The thematic symbols appear in 3D and include Medusa, Hades, Cerberus, Poseidon, and Zeus, each designed in a cartoony, non-serious style. Admittedly, the 3D animated graphics have not aged well since the game’s launch, but they can still drop wins worth up to 2,000x a bet.

You will also stumble across two special symbols in the game, and these include:

  • Wild – The Hot as Hades symbol can replace all bar the scatter icons and double the value of any wins it features in on the reels.
  • Scatter – The crystal skull symbol triggers a click and win bonus if three or more spring up on the reels.

Hot as Hades Slot Features

Microgaming seldom tends to cram in features in their games, but that does not mean that Hot as Hades is devoid of features. Two bonus rounds come standard in this slot, and one of them is triggered entirely at random:

Super Mode

Triggered at random during Hot as Hades’ base game, this feature offers five free spins. During the free spin super mode, up to three wilds are added to the reels at random and remain frozen in place for the duration of the spin bonus. You could prosper from further added wilds, but do not count on that occurring.

Super Mode
Quest for the Crystal Helm Bonus

Oddly enough, the main feature is a click and win round, not a free spin bonus. The Quest for the Crystal Helm mode is triggered by landing three scatters. You will start out on Level 1 – The Pillars of Awesomeness, where you can pick a pot to win one of four cash prizes, or all of them. On Level 2 – Medusa’s Gaze, you can choose a pathway to win one of three prizes, all of them, or end the Quest for the Crystal Helm.

Make it to Level 3 – Poseidon’s Ocean, and you will pick shells to either win goodies or terminate the round. The fourth level (Zeus’s Stairway) offers two cash options and two termination icons behind four clouds, while the final level, the Chamber of the Crystal Skull, lets you choose a chest to win a prize worth up to 8,000x a bet or return to the base game.
