VISA Casinos

Discover why depositing with VISA could be ideal and perhaps even beneficial when you choose to play with our VISA online casino sites.

Virtually all online casino players know that VISA is the most popular form of payment in the world. It doesn’t whether we are talking about online retail, land-based shopping, dining, vacation, sports or even gambling expenses – VISA runs the show. Over 2.3 billion VISAs are in circulation globally, with 687 million of those found in the USA alone. Over 188 billion purchases are processed using either a VISA credit or debit card each year. These are numbers that are unrivalled by all other payment options.

Naturally, with many bettors having access to a VISA, the payment method has found a home in online casinos. The convenience of using VISA to deposit has also seen it grab a massive market share of the gambling audience. Virtually every major online casino accepts VISA, ensuring that not hundreds but thousands of online casinos are open and available to anyone with a bank account attached to a VISA.

So, we know that VISA is the most popular online casino payment method globally and has massive coverage. Very few countries don’t accept VISA. However, with financial fraud always an issue in the online casino world, is VISA really the best method to use when depositing at online casinos? Join us as we explore the ins and outs, the perks, and pitfalls of choosing to use a VISA to gamble online.

About VISA

Credit cards had, in theory, existed for years before VISA came alone. American Express had long been the go-to name for decades before VISA first popped up. However, the game would be changed in the 1950s. In 1958, Bank of America (BofA) became the first company to launch a credit card that would cater to the emerging middle-class (in California). Paying via credit was no longer the plaything of the super-rich.

In 1966, a rival, Master Charge (better known today as MasterCard), had begun to link up with banks across the USA. In a bid to compete, the precursor to today’s VISA, BankAmeriCard (BofA) followed suit. Naturally, the availability and popularity of VISA soon grew. In 1974, the Bank of America launched its first international cards, taking on various names from Barclaycard (UK), Carte Bleu (France), as it debuted.

The confusing array of similar methods (the parent company logo remained largely the same throughout this time as today) needed to be rectified. In 1976, the company rebranded as VISA following a plan by the founder, Dee Hock. The logo and name rapidly became universally accepted and recognisable. The modern VISA was born.

Since its inception, VISA has continually expanded. Today, the company provides debit cards, vouchers, virtual cards and more.

The first VISA Electron (debit) was launched in 1985, bringing VISA to the working class and ensuring that it was possible to have a VISA without having credit. You have VISA, Inc running the parent company and subsidiaries such as VISA Europe running various sectors. The company continues to make immense sums of money each year, earning $10.8 billion in 2020 alone.

Despite being originally developed with middle-class Californians in mind, VISA is now the forerunner for all manner of purchases, from retail to property, goods, food and, yes, gambling. Let’s look closer at how VISA works at online casinos in the next few sections.

Depositing at a VISA Casino

VISA is commonly accepted at virtually all major online casinos. This ensures that if you have a bank card under VISA, you can effectively deposit at said online casino, and there are thousands for you to choose from. For many bettors, this is more than ideal. As they already purchase things regularly online with their VISA, the act of depositing with their card at online casinos won’t be new or confusing to them. Players will already be well-versed in the procedure of entering their bank card details online. The process is the same whether you use VISA (credit), VISA Debit or VISA Electron. Indeed, even prepaid virtual cards and VISA gift vouchers work in the same way.

Making deposits at a VISA online casino using this payment method shouldn’t pose too much of a problem. The minimum deposit limits are typically set to anything from $10 up to $50, although it is common to see minimum deposit caps of $20 – $25 at most online casinos. You shouldn’t really be charged a fee for depositing with this payment method, although a couple of online casinos might do that. The same could be said of shops, though, so we won’t read too much into it. As for maximum deposit limits, these could range from $2,500 up to $5,000 or more per transaction. VISA is capable of handling payments worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, so it is only the limitations of your online casino that might hinder this, not the payment method itself.

How long will it take for deposits made when you use this payment method to clear? VISA deposits will typically arrive instantly in your account without delay. At most, you’re looking at a couple of minutes before you can sit down and start playing.

Depositing with VISA can be a different experience for some players over others, though. For instance, UK players are no longer permitted to deposit with VISA credit cards, although depositing with VISA debit is still very much a possibility. US players may find that their VISA deposits bounce back at some banks prohibit deposits made using the card at offshore casinos. However, trying random figures (such as $67, $89 or $103) instead of conventional sums (like $50, $75 or $90) tends to confuse the banks, leading to your payments going through. For most players, though, there will be no issues depositing with VISA.

Now that we’ve covered that, you may want to learn how to deposit at a VISA online casino? Ultimately, it is a straightforward process, as mentioned. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Get a VISA: Fortunately, we don’t believe that this step is going to be a major issue for most players. The likelihood is that you already have a VISA. If not, get in touch with your bank. Most bank accounts come with either a MasterCard or a VISA. It is your bank and your account that will likely offer you such a card.
  2. Join a VISA Casino: Armed with a card, it is time to check out our list of top VISA online casinos. Each has been approved by our team and certified as fair. Moreover, you are guaranteed to be able to deposit at those online casinos when you use the payment method.
  3. Head to the Cashier Page: Visit the cashier/banking page or search your account settings to find the deposit screen. From there, you can select VISA and enter your card details into the box provided. Be sure to enter them correctly, including the expiration date, CVV and name. Enter the amount you wish to deposit, too.
  4. Confirm and Verify: After making your deposit, expect to verify it. You will be taken to a Verified by VISA page, where you must confirm the payment using whatever method your bank requires. In most cases, this will be some kind of bank ID verification device, perhaps a phone or a physical device. Once your payment is confirmed, the funds should arrive in your account in minutes. You can then use that deposit to claim bonus funds (if you want) or use the deposited funds to wager directly on games.

VISA Deposit Fees

We’ll be honest here – most online casinos (all the best ones anyway) won’t charge you a fee for depositing into your casino account when you use VISA. However, some online casinos will charge you a deposit fee. It’s not unheard of – some shops do the same – but it doesn’t have to be tolerated. There is just no call for playing at online casinos that charge you with deposit fees when so there are so many alternatives out there that won’t do that.

Any online casino that does hit you with a transaction fee will likely see you having to cough up as much as 2.5% of the deposited fee. Other casinos prefer a straight-up, fixed fee for depositing. Again, there are so many other proverbial fish in the sea that there is no reason to put up with deposit fees for VISA payments.

Withdrawing with VISA

VISA isn’t just ideal for depositing at online casinos. It is also one of the most convenient payment methods for players to use when they want to withdraw their winnings. Note that if you used a payment method to deposit which cannot be used to withdraw, most online casinos would automatically process any withdrawal transactions when you use a bank method such as a VISA instead. It is, therefore, the go-to-choice for players and online casinos alike.

Withdrawing via VISA at casino sites is not uncommon. Most online casinos permit this. However, it is certainly not the fastest payment option out there. VISA withdrawals at casinos can often take anything from one to five business days to land. Moreover, US players may also encounter issues when they attempt to withdraw their winnings, as US banks won’t accept payments from offshore casinos. Many offshore online casinos, therefore, offer courier cheques as an alternative.

For most players, the situation is like this: VISA withdrawals will take up to a week and “should” be without charge. However, it is not impossible that you could be charged anything from 1% up to 5% of the withdrawal total as a fee or a fixed rate. VISA can be a double-edged sword when it comes to withdrawal limits, too. It is often possible to withdraw immense sums worth thousands of dollars with VISA, but the minimum withdrawal limits are often high. You’re looking at $20 to $50 up to $100 to $500 in some online casinos. Given the variance to be expected here, we encourage you to use our VISA online casinos, as these casinos are verified as fair, secure, and trustworthy when it comes to VISA withdrawals.

Again, if you are considering gambling with VISA online, you’re probably going to want to know how to withdraw your winnings. Here’s our guide to doing that online:

  1. Check Those Wagering Requirements: Before you can withdraw anything via this payment choice, you must first check that you’ve fulfilled any outstanding wagering requirements. If you haven’t claimed any bonuses, then this won’t be an issue. If you have, though, you’ll need to clear any outstanding rollover or playthrough rates before you can withdraw.
  2. Head to the Cashier Page: This may be under your account settings or can be found on a dedicated page. Once there, select your preferred payment method (VISA) and enter the amount you wish to withdraw. Be sure that the figure falls inside the minimum and maximum withdrawal limits listed at the online casino and that you have that sum in your account.
  3. Complete the Payment: Assuming you’ve complied with the Ts and Cs listed above, you can now enter your VISA details into the boxes. After entering your account details, you can process the payment.
  4. Clear the KYC Step: If you haven’t verified your identity yet, you will likely need to do this before you go any further. Get in touch with customer support and provide them with the relevant documents to clear the Know Your Customer hurdle. You only need to do this once. Once your identity, residence detail and proof of payment are provided, you can withdraw instantly from there on out.
  5. Wait It Out: It will typically take anything from 24 hours up to five business days for VISA payments to clear. Once they do, the money should be returned to whatever card or account you used to fund your account in the first place.

VISA’s Withdrawal Speed

We must make a special mention about the withdrawal speed of VISA. This is not the fastest withdrawal option at online casino sites – by and long shot. In fact, VISA cashouts are amongst the slowest methods around, with cryptocurrencies and e-wallets all miles faster. This is more a limitation of the online casino itself rather than anything VISA does. As touched on above, it is not uncommon to wait for 24 to 48 hours for your withdrawal to clear (sometimes the wait is just a few hours). However, delays of three to five business days are hardly uncommon, either.

VISA Deposit Benefits

There are naturally pros to depositing with VISA at online casinos, and we’ve listed some of the main ones below for you:

  • Sizeable Sums: VISA is the ideal payment method if you want to deposit exceptionally large sums. Most e-wallets and prepaid options simply won’t let you deposit immense sums as VISA can. The same is true of withdrawals, where this payment option can be used to cash out sizeable sums.
  • Widely Accepted: VISA is accepted in most countries in the world, and almost all online casinos are signed up. This means that if you have a VISA, the internet casino world is your oyster, and you should be able to fund your account at any time at any online casino.
  • Convenience: VISA is convenient for many players. Most of us already have a card, so we aren’t required to sign up for a new payment method to top-up and play at online casinos. With VISA, we’re good to go already.
  • Bonus Eligibility: Some payment methods (notably Skrill, Neteller and e-wallets) are often excluded from receiving bonus funds. That is seldom an issue with VISA. Therefore, if you fund your account with VISA, you will almost certainly be able to claim an online casino bonus on your account.

VISA Deposit Drawbacks

While the pros make for a compelling case for you to use VISA at gambling sites, there are still a few negatives we need to look at in the interest of fairness. These include:

  • Specific Issues: As discussed, online casino players in some countries may encounter specific issues. For instance, the UK Gambling Commission has ensured that all UK licensed online casinos won’t permit you to top-up with a VISA credit card, even if VISA Electron and VISA Debit are accepted. US players will also struggle to top-up with VISA on account of the Federal Wire Act. Scandinavians are also required to deposit and use BankID or Trustly, and VISA deposits may not be accepted in some quarters. In short, despite VISA being used extensively in these countries, depositing with VISA won’t be a walk in the park.
  • Security: Despite the Verified by VISA step, credit card theft is still a major issue online. Credit card top-up options simply aren’t as secure as e-wallets and prepaid vouchers. If someone gets hold of your e-wallet or a prepaid voucher, they can only do “so much” damage. However, having your credit or bank card hijacked is always bad news. You’ll have to cancel it, and that’s the least of your worries. Therefore, VISA is arguably less secure a possibility than some of its counterparts.
  • Withdrawal Fees: While most gambling sites don’t hit you with top-up fees, they may still slap you with withdrawal charges. This is not as uncommon as you might think with VISA. Choosing one of our casinos will help you avoid most of those, but 2.5% up to 5% of your withdrawal in charges is still going to sting.
  • Slow Transaction Times: Transaction times are notably slower when it comes to cashouts with VISA, compared to, say, cryptocurrencies or e-wallets. While those payment possibilities can provide instant to 24-hour cashout times, you’re looking at 1-5 business days with VISA. That’s just the way it is at most casinos.

Bonuses You Can Find at VISA Casinos

As touched on above in the pros section, VISA is a payment method that you can use to claim most bonuses at online casinos. While gambling sites may put limitations on what you can claim when you deposit with Skrill, Neteller, PayPal or e-wallets, they seldom do so with credit card or debit card deposit options.

VISA is mostly eligible for deposit bonuses, but you can check this beforehand. Just look at the terms and conditions for any bonus that interests you. There you will likely discover exactly what the Ts and Cs of depositing with VISA are.

This payment option isn’t just valid for claiming casino bonuses; it is actively popular amongst players. You can regularly claim top-up and free spin bonuses when you use this banking option to pop money into your account. VISA seldom appears as a payment option that will get you a special bonus (such as a preferred payment bonus that offers an extra 10% on the top), but there are virtually no other restrictions attached to bonuses claimed when you use this option.

VISA Casino Games

Most online casinos accept VISA – in fact, we’d go out on a limb and say that virtually all of them do. Therefore, you shouldn’t need to worry about what you can or cannot play at VISA casinos. You’ll find the best array of games anywhere. With so many gambling sites accepting the banking option, you can rest assured that you can find everything and anything you want to play, from slots to table games, sports betting to e-sports and poker, bingo to lottery games and much more besides.

The immense array of games you can choose from is so vast that it is actually a chore trying to find a VISA casino to play at based on their games. With that in mind, might we recommend something? Our advice would be to choose a VISA online casino that supports games from over two-dozen software providers and one that carries a wealth of varying titles – we’re talking over a thousand games, perhaps more than two thousand in a single casino.

Our recommended VISA casinos can all offer you the following top titles:

  • Slots: Our VISA casinos regularly provide you with progressive jackpot slots, video slots, non-progressive games, MegaWays, Cluster Pays, fruit machines and classic slot machine games. If you prefer to wager vast sums as a high-roller, VISA deposits come in handy for that.
  • Table Games: Our casinos also offer an exciting selection of RNG (random number generator) table games. Again, for those who want to splash the cash, VISA is the ideal option due to its high deposit limits. You’re looking at baccarat, blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette tables here.
  • Live Casino Games: These titles include many of the games listed above but can also include Dragon tiger, Sic Bo, Andar Bahar, Teen Patti, and countless money wheel and game show releases.
  • Other: If you fancy something less popular, why not try video poker, instant win games, online scratch cards, or lottery, bingo, or keno games. Most of these oddities can also be found at the best VISA online gambling sites. Again, you can find an ample supply of these in our reviews.

Why Choose an Online Casino Offering VISA?

It is almost time for us to let you get on with casino gambling at a VISA online casino. However, before you take off, we should summarise VISA casinos and gambling with this payment method one last time.

VISA is the perfect payment method for online gamblers to use for several reasons. You will likely already have one, so you don’t have to waste time signing up for a new payment method. You can drop down immense sums if you’re a high roller, and as most online casinos accept VISA, you can play at seemingly any casino that ticks your boxes.

On the flip side, you could be charged a fee (but the same could be said of any shop you visit), and withdrawal times can take a few days. However, the withdrawal figures we’re looking at are often far higher than most e-wallets can match. Ultimately, we’d say that there are more perks when you use VISA at online casinos and gambling sites and online casinos than there are cons.

FAQ

Is it free to use VISA at a casino?
That depends entirely on where you choose to play. Most online casinos won’t charge you a fee, either for depositing or withdrawing to or from your casino account with VISA. However, we can’t say the same for all of them. There are casinos out there that will charge a withdrawal fee. As frustrating as that might be, being charged a fee for depositing into your account is an absolute no-no, and yet it still happens at some wayward casinos. We’ll end by saying that when you use VISA at casinos, transactions should be free, but may not be, depending on where you play.

What is the minimum I can fund my account with VISA?
This again varies from casino to casino. It is common to see minimum deposit limits of $20 – $25 at many casinos, although some may drop as low as $10 or rise as high as $50. Again, we’d recommend sticking to our chosen casinos to find the best of both worlds here.

Can I get rewards when I use VISA for online casino payments?
Not normally, no. If you opt to fund your account and play at online casinos and use e-wallets, it is not uncommon to see yourself gain a few perks, privileges and, dare we say, prizes when you use payment options such as this to deposit into your account. However, banking with VISA seldom comes with many rewards, especially at online casinos.

Can I use VISA to deposit at mobile casinos?
We don’t see why not. While some mobile casinos are available through dedicated apps and accept pay-by-phone options, most are still accessible as HTML5 (browser-based casinos), and these accept the payment methods as they would if you were playing via your computer. Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to fund your account with VISA on your phone. However, we do believe that it is trickier to do than if you were sat down at home. We don’t recommend topping up your account via your card while walking down the street, for instance.

What are the alternatives for players?
Some players just can’t get hold of a VISA. For instance, their bank may have a deal with MasterCard instead. That’s okay, though. You can take what you’ve learned in this article and apply it to MasterCard, as most of the details will be the same. American Express is slightly different but a valid alternative. Other alternatives include any other bank cards, including Maestro, VISA Debit or VISA Electron. There may be small discrepancies between the fees, transaction times and limits between credit, debit, and prepaid/voucher VISAs and MasterCards, and AMEX, so check these out before you commit and use one over the other.

Is it safe to use VISA at an online casino?
That depends on where you play. If you opt to sign up and play at one of our trusted and certified VISA casinos, then we’d certainly say so. However, some far-flung offshore casinos may not be regulated and licensed, and you’ll have no guarantee that suitable protection is in place when you fund your account and use your bank card. For most casinos, this won’t be an issue, though, and there are added checks, such as Verified with VISA, to help protect against credit card fraud.

How much can I deposit at an online casino with VISA?
The total amount you can pop into your VISA account will vary, depending on the casino. The bank card itself can often handle transactions worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, so we’d naturally say that those sums should be the limit. However, each casino has its own deposit caps, and most offer responsible gambling tools that let you set your own deposit limits. On average, though, it is not uncommon to see casinos featuring maximum deposit limits of $2,500 up to $5,000 with this payment option.
