Viking Runes is a visual masterpiece. The background consists of a snowy landscape filled with stone statues of Norse gods while in the distance you can see a forest and right above it the northern lights. A Viking stands proud at the left side of the 9×9 grid of symbols while the game’s logo dominates the dashboard.
The game utilizes the cascading reels mechanic meaning that winning combinations disappear and the symbols above them fall to fill in the gaps left behind while new symbols also appear from the top of the grid.

How to Play Viking Runes
There are 9 rows and 9 reels. Since each cluster of 6 or more symbols is a win, the game doesn’t have a predefined set of paylines. The controls are found below the reels allowing you to set the preferred bet size, enable the autoplay feature, spin, and more!
The game has 3 low paying, 4 medium paying, and 2 high paying symbols. The first come in the form of dark runes while the others are orange, red, purple, and green enlightened runes. The two highest-paying ones appear as encased blue and red gem runes.
The game’s special symbols are:
- Wild – The game’s main wild is a blue triangle rune symbol. It appears normally throughout the game.
- Lightning Wilds – Each cascade increases the number of active lightning wilds which are then randomly added to the board. The lightning wilds change their position with each cascade.

What makes the game interesting is the fact that you will randomly activate bonus features based on the current spin’s result. Let’s check them out!
All the symbols will change their position so that you are guaranteed a winning spin. This feature can be activated both during the base game and free spins. It can be triggered if there are no winning clusters and no cascades during the spin.
All of the low paying symbols are transformed into the red gem rune. This can be only triggered once per cascade and it can’t be triggered if there weren’t any cascades in the spin. This feature can be activated both during the base game and free spins but only once.
3 to 9 wild symbols are randomly placed on the board and only on regular symbols. The same requirements as those applying to the “Spell of Ancestors” feature also apply here.
If you manage to get 4 cascades then you will activate the feature which will award you 6 free games. During the free spins, the lightning wilds have multiplicative progressive multipliers (2x – 7x). The multipliers are increased for each cascade with lightning wilds (maximum +1 per cascade). These multipliers are saved between the spins.
