Hotline 2 Slot Review

Heavily influenced by 80’s cop shows, Hotline 2 gives off some pretty rad retro vibes while at the same time providing you with some top-notch customizable gameplay. Put on your badge, load your gun, and get ready to hunt down the big wins!

The retro-style we mentioned before can be seen in the game’s visuals. In the background, you can see a shore-side road with luxurious apartments on the left and a stunning beach on the right, decorated with palm trees and shrubs. The reels are located in the middle of the interface while the logo of the game sits right on top, coming and going at times, giving its place to game hints.

Mechanically, the game is very basic. The reels spin altogether and come to stop individually in consecutive fashion. Winning symbols become animated and trigger a short audio effect.

NetEnt has really gone out of their way to create such a good slot that we really don’t have anything to compare it to other than its prequel “Hotline”. The two games may be different, especially RTP-wise, but they do share some core foundations. Now, let’s check out how it works.

How to Play Hotline 2

The game has 3 rows and 5 reels with 243 ways to win. The controls are located below the reels allowing the player to set the preferred bet amount, set up the autoplay function, access the in-game menu, or simply spin.

Bets start as low as $0.10 (one line covered) and go up to $150 (all lines covered) per spin. Hotline 2 is a low volatility slot with a 96.05% RTP meaning that you will be getting frequent wins with chances of a large one being higher than usual. That said, you can still win as much as 5,184x your stake in case you have unlocked all of the extra paylines.

Symbols-wise, the game features 6 low paying and 4 high paying symbols. The first are represented by 5 pieces of jewelry and a red diamond while the latter come in the form of a dispatcher, two detectives, and a woman sipping champagne.

The slot’s special symbols are:

  • Wild – Represented by a car chase symbol, the wild substitutes for all symbols except for the scatter. It can only appear in reels 2, 3, and 4.
  • Scatter – Represented by a neon sign, 3 of these activate the free spins feature.

Hotline 2 Features

The game’s medium variance and wide bet range allow all players, even those on a tiny bankroll, to enjoy it. The game has a special feature, which we will begin with, that makes it unique. Let’s check it out.

Hotlines

By default, only reel 3 is a hotline. However, you can choose to add reel 2 or 4 or both of them in the mix by doubling or accordingly tripling your bet. This feature increases your chances of winning expanding wilds.

Expanding Wilds

During the main game, wilds that land on a hotline will become expanded and cover up the entire reel if that results in a win. That said if the wild lands on a hotline during the free spins then it will always expand to cover the whole reel.

Free Spins

Three scatter symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4 triggers the feature awarding the player 7 free spins. Every time a wild lands on reels 2, 3, and 4 the reel height increases by 1 thus also increasing the number of potential winning ways.

The maximum reel height is 6 and there can be up to 1944 bet ways. Each hotline that reaches its maximum height also awards 2 additional free spins whereas a non-hotline reel awards only 1.

Even though free spins can’t be retriggered, players have the option to buy the feature for 60x the stake (1 hotline), 120x (2 hotlines), and 180x (3 hotlines).

We did a test to see if that could possibly be profitable. As a result, we ended on a profit on the 3 hotlines option while we almost broke even on the other two. So, if you want our honest opinion, we’d advise you to stick to the base game and don’t purchase any bonus features. Let them come naturally.
