Returning to the good old days where there weren’t many online slots, Gems Bonanza only features a few symbols that can form winning combinations and utilize the tumble feature.
Starting with the visuals, the background consists of an ancient Mayan area with a foundry smelting gold filling up a treasure cauldron located right below. At the right of the reel set, you can also make out a Mayan artifact with various indicators on top of the circle surrounding it. How to Play Gems Bonanza
The game consists of 8 rows and 8 reels. The controls are located near the bottom of the screen allowing the player to spin, set up the autoplay function, change the bet size, or simply check out the paytable. Further customization options are accessible via the in-game menu.
Gems Bonanza features 4 low paying and 3 high paying symbols. They come in the form of different colored gemstones such as sapphire, an emerald, a ruby, and an amethyst.
The game’s special symbols are:
- Wild – Represented by a green gemstone encased in a gold box, the wild substitutes for all symbols. It only appears during the Wild Gem and Lucky Wilds features. The same wild symbol can connect to form multiple winning combinations with other symbols.

Due to the game’s nature, the number of features is limited and free spins aren’t part of these. Let’s see what the game has to offer though!
Winning combinations will be destroyed leaving behind spaces that are filled by the symbols located above. This feature continues occurring until there aren’t any more winning combinations or until a feature is triggered due to a tumble.
During the base game, special colored markings can appear behind normal symbols. If a win occurs and the symbol behind which sits a colored marking is part of that win, then a special spin feature is triggered. These activate after all current spin wins have been awarded.
These features are:
- Nuclear (Blue) – All symbols are cleared and new ones fill the screen.
- Wild Gem (Pink) – All instances of one random symbol present on the screen transform into a wild.
- Squares (Brown) – Random blocks of 2×2 symbols are added in random positions on the screen.
- Colossal Symbol (Red) – A random 3×3, 4×4, or 5×5 block of the same symbol is added in a random position on the screen.
- Lucky Wilds (Green) – 5 to 15 wild symbols are added in random positions on the screen.
If multiple features are won in the same spin they are played in the following order: Nuclear, Wild Gem, Squares, Colossal Symbol, and Lucky Wilds.
After each winning combination, the destroyed symbols are counted and the Gold Fever meter fills. After a certain number has been reached, the Gold Fever feature triggers. The meter resets back to zero when there aren’t any remaining winning symbols.
The feature starts at 114 collected points on level 1. During the feature at every level, all spin features are guaranteed to be played once per level and all wins have a default starting win multiplier of 2x.
The feature ends when not enough winning symbols have been collected to proceed to the next level or after level 5 ends.
Based on how many winning symbols you collect at each level you can unlock the following:
- Level 2 – 116 winning symbols, 4x win multiplier
- Level 3 – 120 winning symbols, 6x win multiplier
- Level 4 – 125 winning symbols, 8x win multiplier
- Level 5 – 132 winning symbols, 10x win multiplier
