How Win Both Ways Slots Work?

With online slots, a spin on the reels results in two outcomes. Either an end of spin with no symbols forming a winning combination or a winning combination formed after matching symbols are landed on the reels. However, even after landing on the matching symbols, many online slots add a twist in that the symbols must match up from left to right to activate a win. In the case the symbols are landed from the right to the left, that is not considered a win. It gets frustrating.

However, this is different with win both ways slots that can win in either way. Whether the symbols match up left to right or right to left, a winning combination will be formed. This explains the reason these types of slots have a higher hit frequency.

Note: The win both ways feature will be more common in slots with 243 ways to win.

Is any activation necessary? 2-way slots will function normally as a standard slot. There is no special activation that will be required. All you have to do is spin the reels and if matching symbols land on a pay line, you will trigger a win. The highlight about the slots is that you can win in either direction the matching symbols land. Nothing changes on these slots. The paylines remain the same and the symbol matching requirement remains the same.

Basics of Win Both Ways Slots

Keep in mind that many win both ways slots will have the feature functioning in both base game and/or free spins round/bonus round. However, some of the slots will strictly design the feature for the free spins/bonus rounds. This means that on the base game mode, the winning combination must be strictly on the left to the right.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The win both ways feature comes attached with several benefits you can enjoy and some drawbacks of why you can reconsider them. Among the benefits include:

  • Two is better than one – More wins can be generated on these slots as opposed to the standard slots that only have one way to score wins.
  • Invested in the game – Win both ways slots will have a player invested in the slot longer than they would be invested on a normal/standard slot. While one or two spins may not help form a winning combination, there is the anticipation that the next spin might hit a win.

Among the drawbacks associated with 2-way slots include:

  • Wins remain the same – Despite having two ways to win, the winnings are not doubled. The highest win per line will be paid. This means that 5 matching symbols will be counted and paid once and will not function as two different combos. Hitting a wild symbol nearing the middle of the reels will only payout the larger prize of the two prizes.
  • Cost – It is possible in some of these slots to place a higher wager as compared to the ‘one-way’ slots. Some of these slots will require a player to bet max or to manually activate the win both ways feature that will require more stake.
