Wanted Dead or a Wild Slot Review

No, this isn’t just a smart play on words, this is Hacksaw Gaming’s take on classic wild West themed slots. Are you ready to explore the lands and duel your way to victory in not one, not two, but three bonus modes? Spin to start your journey!

The game takes place at sunset near a couple of draught-out trees. Overall, the game emits a very ominous atmosphere which is carried out to all of its bonus modes. Regarding the reel set, it appears in the form of a wooden post such as the one you’d find “most wanted” posters on. The symbols appear as playing cards or, just like the rest of the game, some kind of poster. The logo of the game sits on top while the buy feature button is located near the bottom left corner.

Moving on to the mechanics, the game works like most other slots in the sense that the reels start spinning altogether and come to rest individually in consecutive order. The seemingly dull gameplay is enhanced by sticky and more frequent wilds as well as increasing wild and win multiplier counters. More on these later on.

Almost all slot providers have tackled the Wild West theme at some point. Such slots seem to be loved by millions of fans worldwide so why shouldn’t they exist? If you are a big fan then we recommend checking out Money Train by Relax Gaming as well as Mustang Gold by Pragmatic Play. For now, let’s focus on Wanted Dead or a Wild.

How to Play Wanted Dead or a Wild

The game consists of 5 rows and 5 reels with 15 fixed paylines. The controls are neatly organized near the bottom of the interface allowing players to set the preferred bet size, enable the autoplay function, enter the in-game menu, buy a feature, or simply spin.

As for the stakes, you can bet anywhere between $0.20 and $100 per spin. Wanted Dead or a Wild is a high variance game so don’t expect to get many wins regularly. That said, the maximum win is 12,500x your stake while the return to the player is 96.38% but ranges based on the active mode.

Wanted Dead or a Wild features 5 low paying and 5 high paying symbols. The first come in the form of card values 10-A followed by an animal skull, a bandit, a money sack, a liquor bottle, and a revolver’s loading chamber.

The slots special symbols are:

  • Wild – The wild substitutes for all other symbols except for the 3 special ones.
  • Duel/Dead/The Great Train Robbery – Getting 3 of each of these symbols will trigger the associated bonus mode.
  • VS/Plus sign/Skull playing cards – Special symbols that appear during the bonus mode.

Wanted Dead or a Wild Features

With 14 different symbols, it would be only fitting for this game to offer a wide variety of bonus features. So, without further ado, let’s check each of them out!

Duel At Dawn

Land 3 Duel scatter symbols to trigger the feature and get 10 free spins. During this feature, you will get more VS symbols to land than in the base game. Each VS symbol will expand if it can form or participate in a win.

After expanding, it will display 2 outlaws having a duel, each one with its own multiplier. The surviving outlaw’s multiplier will apply to the whole reel. The entire reel will also turn wild. If you land more than one VS symbol, the values will first be added and then multiplied with the line wins. This feature can be bought at the cost of 200x your current stake.

The Great Train Robbery

This feature is triggered by getting 3 scatter symbols of the same name awarding 10 free spins. However, these aren’t simple free spins as during these there is an increased chance of landing bonus wild symbols. Also, all wild symbols that land will turn sticky meaning they will remain on the reel set for the entirety of the feature. This feature can be bought at the cost of 80x your current stake.

Dead Man’s Hand

The feature is triggered by getting 3 Dead scatter symbols awarding 3 initial spins. The regular symbols are swapped for skull playing card symbols. The spin counter resets back to 3 every time a new wild or plus sign symbol appears. You can collect up to 20 wilds while the plus sign which increases the win multiplier can be collected up to 31 times.

This mode will end when you reach the maximum wild and multiplier counter or after 3 non-winning spins. This is when the showdown phase will begin. 3 spins are awarded. On each of those, you are going to get a number of wilds equal to the amount you collected in the premium phase and all wins will be multiplied with the collected win multiplier. This feature can be bought at the cost of 400x your current stake.
