John Wayne Slot Review
The Duke may not be here anymore but his legacy lives on in multiple ways. One of them is online gambling. Join the western movie legend, John Wayne, and fight off the bad guys for a chance at winning those reels to get a huge payout. Will you be the fastest to spin or die trying?
Visual-wise, John Wayne isn’t anything extraordinary but it sure has its charm and unique character. In the background, you can see a couple of houses and a saloon as well as a cloudy sky. The game’s reels aren’t decorated with a border or anything fancy other than a “dark wood” wallpaper acting as the backdrop.
An interactive array of bullets with associated payline numbers on them are located at the sites and can be used to tweak the winning lines of the spins.
Moving on to the mechanics, this Playtech slot features the classic spin and stop format meaning that the reels start spinning altogether but they stop individually in consecutive order. Inspired by John Wayne’s movies, this Playtech slot has a unique character and the closest similar game we could think of is none other than Play’n Go’s “Gunslinger Reloaded”.
So if you like action-packed scenes and the old good Wild West, this slot should be a safe bet for you. Jump on and start shooting those reels!
How to Play John Wayne
The game features 3 lines and 5 reels and 25 non-fixed paylines. Moving on to the controls, from left to right, you will see the info section, payline and line bet selection, last win and total bet amount, max bet, autoplay (10, 25, 50, 99 spins), and finally, the spin button.
Unfortunately, more autoplay parameters and a quickspin option were both missing. At least the sounds and a few animation speeds can be tweaked by the in-game menu.
The bet limits start at $0.01 (1 payline, 1p minimum line bet) and can go up to $1,250 (25 paylines, $50 maximum line bet). The game has a slightly low 93.97% RTP but the volatility is medium so you can expect fairly regular wins.
The maximum possible payout is 3,000x times your baseline bet which would be around $150,000!
Moving on, you can expect to see 5 low-paying symbols represented by card values 10-A. There are plenty of high-paying symbols which isn’t something we see often. In fact, there are 7 of them. These are a neckerchief, a cowboy hat, a cowboy boot, and a sheriff’s badge as well as 3 black and white images of John Wayne himself.
As for special symbols, there are:
- Wild – The slot’s wild symbol is none other than a colored image of the Duke. It can substitute for any other symbol except for the ranch bonus and “The Duke” badge, to create winning combinations.
- Ranch Bonus – The ranch bonus symbol acts as the slot’s scatter. Landing 3 will trigger a mini-game.
- The Duke badge – Triggers a pick’em event if you manage to get at least 3 of them in a line.

John Wayne Features
This masterpiece of a Wild West-themed slot comes with some great bonus features. Just like the game’s unique character, these are fairly innovative as they provide an entertaining yet rewarding experience.
This bonus will kick in when you land the associated symbol in reels 1, 3, and 5 in the same spin. You will get 3 free games immediately and then be transferred to a shooting gallery where you will have to shoot down a few tin cans.
If you manage to shoot them down you will be awarded more prizes. These can be a multiplier bonus, extra bullets, a mystery extra wild or scatter symbol, more free games, or even a reactivation bonus of the feature.
The bonus ends when the player runs out of bullets and is transferred back to the main game screen to use up the free spins and collect any won prizes.
