Gladiator Slot Review

Travel to ancient Rome, visit the Colosseum, and witness one of the most entertaining shows of old times. Gladiators fighting each other to the end. Will you be the one to prevail and win the jackpot? Let’s find out!

Inspired by the 2000 blockbuster film, the Gladiator slot welcomes players to the Colosseum which is visible as the game’s background. The logo dominated the top of the screen while right below it you’ll find the main dashboard.

Things are pretty normal mechanics-wise as the game feature a reel after reel spin meaning that once the first one stops spinning so does the one next to it. The visuals reminded us of WMS’s “Rome & Egypt” slot as well as “Golden Rome” by Leander Games.

If you are a fan of the movie and ancient Rome you’ll most likely find this slot fairly interesting. Now, let’s see how it works.

How to Play Gladiator

The game features 3 lines and 5 reels as well as 25 non-fixed paylines. The controls are located at the bottom of the screen and are divided into two rows.

On the first, you’ll find the bet per line selection, autoplay spin amount controller (1-99 spins), active lines indicator, line bet, total bet, and last win amount.

On the second row, you’ll see an info button, the autostart button, lines selection, bet per line multiplier button (1x-10x of the bet per line), max bet, a gamble button, and last, the spin button.

The active number of paylines can also be selected by the two columns placed at the sides of the dashboard where all the different 1-25 payline options are located as individual buttons. Other options are available through the in-game menu.

The bet limits start at $0.02 (1x multiplier, 1 line, minimum bet per line) and can increase up to $1,250 (10x multiplier, 25 lines, maximum bet per line). Gladiator is a low/medium volatility so you can expect regular but small wins.

The game offers a progressive jackpot which is won every 75 days give or take and the average amount is 1.25 million dollars!

The game is equipped with 6 low-paying symbols of card values 9-A while there also are 5 high-paying symbols portrayed as characters from the movie. Moving on to special symbols, there are:

  • Gladiator helmet – This acts as the slot’s wild and can substitute all other symbols except for the scatter to form winning combinations. It can only appear on reels 2, 3, and 4.
  • Colosseum – This is the slot’s scatter symbol. It can activate many different bonuses.

Gladiator Features

The game might not be the most impressive one you’ve played but it sure has its charm. Let’s take a look at the different bonus features you can expect to activate while playing this slot.

Gladiator Bonus

This bonus will activate if you get three wild symbols on any position on reels 2, 3, and 4. A new window will appear where you’ll be presented with 9 helmets appearing one by one. These can be bronze, silver, or gold each one awarding 1, 3, and 5 times the total bet respectively.

At the end of the bonus, you will win the total value of the 9 helmets.

Coliseum Bonus

No, this isn’t a typo, this is how Playtech meant it to be. The bonus will be triggered when 3 or more scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels. This will start a bonus round which consists of 4 rows and 5 columns.

Starting from the first row (bottom) the player will be choosing one stone per row which will reveal a bonus of a specific kind. After picking the stone one of four random effects will be applied.

Here are the rows and what each one contains:

  • First row – Awards 4, 5, 7, 10, or 12 free spins
  • Second row – Reveals a 1x, 2x, or 3x multiplier which is will be used during the free spins
  • Third row – Reveals an extra scatter symbol to be used during free spins
  • Fourth row – Reveals an extra wild symbol to be used during free spins

The four effects, one of which will be randomly selected after picking a stone are:

  • You normally move to the next row and pick a stone
  • An extra pick is given from the current row (applies only to the first and second row)
  • The whole column is automatically opened (selects stones in the same column for all rows)
  • You collect the selected stone, the bonus round ends, and you start the free spins.

The bonus can’t retrigger during the free spins. However, if the “Commodus” character symbol appears on the third reels you will get 3 extra free spins.

Gamble

Every time you win in the base game you can select the “Gamble” button for a chance to increase the round’s earnings.

If you go on with it you will be asked to select whether the card to be revealed will be red or black. If you choose correctly you will double your win and can continue to gamble until the feature’s limit ($1,250) is reached.

At the start of the feature and at every round you win, you have the option to collect your earnings and continue playing the base game.
