Crystal Queen is not really the most imaginative name for an online slot. That said, this is not the most imaginative theme. Developed by Quickspin, the Crystal Queen slot is at least unique when it comes to features. There is something quite clearly “Frozen” about this release, and that may, in part, be the reason why it feels a little flat.

That Disney film (and its sequel) have gone to attract global praise and become a worldwide phenomenon. We cannot really say the same of this knock-off slot version. Everything from the red-head sister, the goofy reindeer, predictable Prince Charming and the Ice Queen herself are blinding obvious spins on characters central to those films. It smacks a touch of desperation.

So, what can the features in the Crystal Queen game offer? Can they save the day? We will concede that having two wild symbols, cascading reels, and a decent free spin bonus with expanding paylines is appealing, but the blocker symbols woven into this release do not do it any favours.

The reindeer, Prince Charming, red-haired woman, and Crystal Queen (clearly designed to mimic Sven, Kristoffer, Anna and Elsa) are worth substantially more than the high-playing cards in this medium variance game. To help you win, a few other symbols also appear, including:

• Wilds – Two wilds appear in The Crystal Queen. A conventional wild can appear on the fourth and fifth reels, but that is nothing to write home about. However, the game also has spreading wilds. These appear on the first three reels. They can expand horizontally across the reels.
• Scatters – Red jewels (also coloured in gold), and three or more will activate a free spin round.

Crystal Queen Slot Features

The game features a cascading reels system, which Quickspin likes to call a Swooping Reels mechanic. To begin with, the upper rows on the screen are frozen solid. However, as you bag consecutive wins with the cascading reels, they unlock, giving you more lines to play with. You can also end up with multipliers. Landing one, two or three wins in a row will see you play with 32, 44 and 56 lines, as well as 2x, 3x and 5x multipliers, respectively.

Once no new wins occur, the cascading reel mode ends. However, there are two other perks which are worth looking at in this game.
